November Reflections: Healing, Growth, and Gratitude

Dear Village,
The holiday season is right around the corner, and with it comes a time to pause, reflect, and give thanks. As we approach the close of another year, we’re reminded of how much our My Hair My Health PDX village has grown. Through every conversation, connection, and moment of shared learning, we’re especially excited to bring you a timely discussion that speaks to both healing and empowerment.
On Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. PST, we’ll gather virtually for our book club event featuring Kara Stevens, also known as The Frugal Feminista, to discuss her powerful book Heal Your Relationship with Money. This conversation invites us to rethink our relationship with money; not from a place of scarcity, but from one of self-worth, balance, and liberation. It’s the perfect way to ground ourselves before the holiday season begins.
We’re also trying something new this month. You’ll be receiving a simpler, cleaner Village News design that reflects our honed down essential programming. We hope you enjoy this refreshed look and find inspiration in what’s ahead. Thank you, as always, for walking with us on this journey of wellness, community, and transformation.

Beautiful Black Women Gatherings
We want to take a moment to officially catch you up on what’s been transpiring. Before we get into it, we’d like to first thank you for staying with us during these seasons of change. While we’re honored and excited for this development, we apologize for not letting you know earlier and it taking this long to formally share this transition. We thought it was important that you hear it directly from us: My Hair My Health PDX is now leading the charge in organizing future Beautiful Black Women gatherings!
Stay tuned for details about our next BBW gathering coming in February 2026!
Your energy, love, and sisterhood have always been the heartbeat of these spaces, and we’re deeply grateful for your continued support as we carry this vision forward together!
With gratitude and love, Adejoke Babatunde & Dr. Joyce Senior Executive Director & Deputy Director My Hair My Health PDX

The guiding principles of My Hair My Health PDX:
- Centering Black Women and their families
- Generational Healing
- Cultural Food Traditions
- Movement for Body and Soul
Our mission is to create a safe space of healing and celebration that inspires Black women and their families to live their best lives.
Rooted in our four principles, our vision is to build a collaborative village through events, resources, networking opportunities, workshops and classes that uplift our mind, body and soul while connecting us to ourselves and to one another.
We are a movement redefining beauty on our own terms—celebrating it from the inside out and inspiring self-love, wellness, and empowerment. Join our village and help us continue to uplift, inform, and celebrate Black women and their families by subscribing to our newsletter.
